Got Slam? Come and learn how to present a poetry slam, hear real teens present their poetry and describe their slam experiences at the library. Then try your hand at a little friendly poetry competition.

Course Content

  • Learn the structure and rules of poetry slam.
  • Learn what to do with questions of censorship and mature content.
  • Find out how to promote the slam in your community, recruit teen poets and reward the poets who compete.
Audience: Teen or Young Adult librarians or anyone interested in enchancing the library experience for teens.
Presenter:
Nancy Levin is the Young Adult Services Coordinator at the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library where she has worked since 1998. She has served as Children's Services Librarian and as Children's Associate. Teens from ages 11-19 have been slammin' at her library and on the road in team and individual competitions with great success and huge crowds coming to watch! Before becoming a librrian, Levin was a photo-editor at The Associated Press and the Encyclopaedia Britannica. She also served in the curatorial department at the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House in Rochester, NY.
