Public libraries across the country are recognizing the importance of making programs more developmentally appropriate for children by using techniques incorporated by early childhood educators and having more opportunities for hands-on learning experiences. Many librarians are now incorporating art, music, drama, math, or science activities after sharing literature with children.

This workshop will help librarians select picture book titles that would be good to share and then give suggestions for hands-on activities that could be replicated for storytime programs, for family programs, for homeschoolers, or for a program offered by the library to early childhood educators.

Topics of Discussion

  • Techniques used by educators
  • Activities that complement picture books
  • Incorporating art, music, drama, math and science
  • Storytime programs
  • Ideas for family activities and homeschoolers
Audience: Children's Librarians, Teachers and any staff working with children
Presenter:
Sue McCleaf Nespeca is the founder of Kid Lit Plus Consulting, and 2022 Chair of the Sibert Awards Committee. Kid Lit Plus is devoted to the promotion of early childhood literature ages birth through grade three.
