Today's children are inundated with news about war and possible terrorist attacks. We can help them escape these serious issues temporarily by adding humor to our literature-based programming at the library. Also, by adding fun activities to our storytime and family programs, we can get children excited about reading and books.
Come to Youth Services Symposium XV and find ways to add some humor & fun to your programs. Pamela Duncan Edwards and Henry Cole, author and illustrator of such classics as Clara Caterpillar; Warthogs Paint; Dinorella: A Prehistoric Fairytale; Rude Mule; Ed & Fred Flea; and Roar!: A Noisy Counting Book. will set the stage. Then, hear Susan Nipp, one of two famous WEE SING performers, share silly songs you can use with children.
Recordings by WEE SING have sold over 50 million copies and won awards such as Parents' Choice; TV Guide's Parents' Guide to Children's Entertainment; and People Magazine's "Picks & Pans." Finally, hear a well-known author of books for early childhood educators, Pam Schiller, share ideas on how to get children excited about reading, with her presentation "Keep a Song in Your Heart and a Story in Your Pocket." Pam is author of many books including Creating Readers: Over 1000 Games, Activities, Tongue Twisters, Fingerplays, Songs, and Stories to Get Children Excited about Reading.
