Who chooses these award winners? And what are the Best Bets for 2002 books? Come hear how these two national book awards for children are chosen, including the make-up of the committees, the criteria for nomination and guidelines for selecting winners and honor books. Following will be book talks of some of the best fiction and nonfiction books published in the year 2002.

Dr. Carolyn Brodie, Associate Professor, School of Library and Information Science, Kent State University and Former Chair of the Newbery Committee and Sue McCleaf Nespeca, Kid Lit Plus Consulting, and 2003 Chair of Sibert Committee will discuss this year’s best children’s books and offer insight into the selection of award winners.
