Find out how and why the Caldecott Medal and the Coretta Scott King Award are decided and learn to critically evaluate picture and illustrated books for children. Sessions will focus on selection criteria and discussion techniques used in judging the Caldecott and Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards. Barbara Barstow and Chrystal Carr Jeter will introduce “selected” 2022 titles for award consideration and conduct a Mock Caldecott and Coretta Scott King Awards exercise for all attendees.

Learn the particulars about serving on two important awards committees. Sessions will focus on the Caldecott and Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards and offer tips and techniques on evaluating their content for award selection. Mock elections will be conducted to illustrate how these two honors are awarded.
