Principal Duties: The Cleveland Public Library (population approximately 500,000) is seeking strong, upwardly mobile and patron-centric library professionals to join this outstanding organization and serve in the two remaining middle-management positions as Neighborhood Team Managers. As part of the library’s strategic plan, these positions have been created to serve as team managers with management responsibility for nine to ten branches as the library refocuses its emphasis on the redevelopment and revitalization of the neighborhood branches throughout the system. The City of Cleveland (population approximately 500,000) has achieved a successful blend of history, arts, culture, entertainment and recreation in each of its unique neighborhoods. The community supports the library system in patronage and recently approved a levy to enhance the services provided. The focus will be redirected to increasing access and outreach in neighborhoods, redefining and enhancing family and youth service programming as well as undertaking a multi-year branch renovation plan. This position reports to the Head of Branches & Outreach Services and is the pivotal role in the successful implementation of the new and enhanced branch services and revitalization supported through the Strategic Plan. The successful candidate will be a highly creative and community-focused library professional, with outstanding project management, supervisory and leadership skills. He/she must be able to build community partnerships and guide a team of professionals as a change agent, building cohesiveness within the team, as well as with the other branches and departments systemwide. Cleveland Public Library (CPL) is the third largest public research library in the United States, and consists of a Main Library Complex, 28 neighborhood branch libraries, mobile library service, and a Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped, in addition to management responsibility for an automation consortium, the CLEVNET network. CPL is a national leader in the provision of electronic information (24/7), and serves as a leader in the provision of innovative and comprehensive regional services. The State of Ohio enjoys the reputation of providing some of the finest support for their public libraries. CPL has an operating budget of over $60 million with a staff of over 700; the System carries a collection of over 10 million materials and has over 3.8 million visitors annually. Funding for the library system comes primarily from local property taxes and the state.

Requirements:
Requirements include a minimum of a Master’s degree in Library Sciences from an ALA accredited university and 8 - 10 years of management and/or supervisory experience, with an emphasis on delivering services in an urban setting. Outstanding coalition-building, management and administrative skills must be demonstrated, as well as a background of working in a unionized environment. Candidates with experience in an urban or metropolitan system, along with additional professional qualifications such as a MBA or MPA, will receive favorable consideration.
