Purpose: The purpose of the Technology Committee is to provide a formal structure through which staff from CAMLS libraries can explore the applications
of modern technology to libraries by:

  • sharing information and ideas;
  • identifying the applications of technologies in member libraries;
  • providing continuing education opportunities

Approved by the CAMLS Board of Trustees October 18, 1990.

Topic : XML (extensible markup language) offers libraries an opportunity to integrate and unify sources of information, creating a single-search model across applications. At this program Peter Lang from Software Answers will discuss Microsoft?s support of XML. Microsoft XML tools exist in Internet Explorer 5.0, SQL-server 2000, Internet Information Server 5.0, Office 2000, Visual Basic 6.0, and Active X Data Objects 2.5. We?ll take a closer look at Microsoft XML solutions.

  • XMLHTTP posting of XML documents from browser to server;
  • Biz2Biz XML envelopes and manifests;
  • Simple Object Access protocol (SOAP) for Component Object Model (COM) web services
