Title: Library Assistant Level III
Organization: Case Western Reserve University
Location: Kelvin Smith Library
Hours: Monday Thru Friday (weekdays) 8:30 am. - 5:00 pm. Some shift rotation for opening the facility and changes in academic year.
Salary: Minimum $23,800
Principal Duties: Library Assistant III duties primarily support the public services of the library when engaged with the public at the Main Service Desk, and for supporting significant consortium responsibilities. Library Assistant III duties also may include a rotation in opening the facility, with other public service colleagues. Daily general duties at the Main Service Desk address patron services, in customer interaction and problem resolution, and include primary individual responsibilities for OhioLINK consortium support, management of overdue lists during the year and at graduation, and supplemental cross training for Reserves and ILLiad interlibrary services at their peak times; other information services are also included. Responsibilities for Collection Maintenance support goals to achieve standards for accurate, timely access of materials. Indicative of a shared, goal-driven approach to library services, Library Assistant Ill positions work with the Main Service Desk Supervisor on customer service and circulation issues, and with the Collection Maintenance Supervisor on collection maintenance standards. The Main Service Desk Supervisor, as the supervisor of record, collaborates with the Collection Maintenance Supervisor on defining Library Assistant III tasks and schedules, incorporating adjustments for peak Reserve and ILLiad activities, which occur at different points in the academic year. Library Assistant Ill positions are expected to operate with significant independence on primary tasks and daily scheduling roles, and to interact with and actively participate in the planning and execution of collection maintenance standards that determine the success of the library''s mission. Acting as collaborative partners on collection maintenance, Service Desk duties, and special projects, these positions are the core of the library''s user-centered focus.

Requirements:
Good command of English language required, for excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with users of a culturally diverse environment. Must have the ability to converse and correspond with users of varying degrees of education, sophistication, and temperament; critical in the interpretation and subsequent communication of library policies, procedures, financial discussions, and overall explanation of the facility and its equipment. Will be required to learn in detail a wide variety of constantly evolving policies concerning Kelvin Smith Library, other Case libraries, and consortium libraries. A willingness to assume responsibility required; ability required to exercise good judgment in situations that warrant individual interpretation of policies/procedures. The ability to operate with significant independence and judgment during times when working alone, ability required to prioritize assigned primary tasks, delegate portions as needed, and effectively collaborate with other staff members to ensure timely information access and public service. A desire for significant independence balanced with ability to collaborate or take direction, awareness of information tools, changes, and improvements highly desirable. Ability to supervise students highly desirable. Ability to be future-oriented and change-receptive highly desirable. Must have a working knowledge of computers (Windows or Macintosh) required. Must have a w orking knowledge of web-based library online catalogs, working knowledge of word processing, working knowledge of spreadsheet applications and basic Internet navigation skills highly desirable; training available for Case-specific Sites. 2 years library experience required, academic library experience preferred. Customer Service experience highly desirable. Supervisory experience desirable. High school diploma required. Bachelor''s degree desired; comparable work experience considered.
