Principal Duties: The University of Akron Libraries, a key member in the OhioLINK library consortium, seeks a flexible, energetic, innovative leader to guide its Cataloging services in the 21st Century. The Head of Cataloging reports to the Assistant Dean and is a member of the library management group. The Cataloging Department, comprised of an experienced group of three professionals and three paraprofessionals, is responsible for cataloging materials in all formats. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head of Cataloging is responsible for providing access to the libraries’ information resources and for managing and supervising the Cataloging Department. The successful candidate will be able to set priorities in cooperation with colleagues and to organize resources and workflow efficiently and effectively for library users. He or she will be aware of issues and trends in librarianship, information delivery and scholarly communication. Additionally, this person will have the leadership skills necessary to realize the fullest potential of a talented and accomplished staff through a collaborative, inclusive and collegial management style. The Head of Cataloging will represent the University’s libraries on OhioLINK’s Database Management and Standards Committee (DMSC).

Requirements:
Required Qualifications: • ALA accredited MLS or equivalent library degree • Expert cataloging skills; thorough knowledge of current tools and standards • Demonstrated leadership skills, including effective experience in project planning, project implementation and resource management • Successful, professional experience in a technical service unit of a complex academic or research library • Knowledge of the issues and trends in librarianship and information delivery • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Ability to meet academic rank and tenure requirements Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with Innovative/Millennium or similar integrated library system • Experience working within a consortial environment • Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language
