| Principal Duties: | o Teach library classes for grades Three year olds-grade 3 o Serve as a resource for the Lower School faculty to provide curriculum related materials for classroom use o Assist teachers to integrate library materials and skills with grade level curriculum o Maintain library collection and catalog to support the overall academic program o Organize author visits, birthday book and gift book programs and annual book sales in cooperation with the Parentsí Association o Develop annual summer reading list o Research and recommend new technology that can be integrated into curriculum |
| Qualifications/ Requirements: |
Hawken School seeks a dynamic individual committed to teaching the whole child. Candidates must possess demonstrated competence in elementary pedagogy and a strong understanding of childrenís literature. A masterís degree in Library Science or related field and recent teaching experience is preferred. Candidates should have an understanding of the developmental needs of the age groups, demonstrate flexibility, energy, creativity, high expectations, and a sense of humor. He/she must possess knowledge of print and electronic materials, have computer skills with an awareness of appropriate web sites for the various age groups. Candidates should be willing and eager to assist in the life of the School, be effective with parents and colleagues and welcome opportunities for professional development. |
