CAMLS Receives $32,732 Videoconference Equipment Grant

The State Library Board has approved a special LSTA grant of $32,732 for the purchase of videoconferencing equipment for CAMLS and two other Regional Library Systems.

This new equipment will be placed at the Shaker Heights Public Library and will be available for CAMLS videoconferencing opportunities on an as-needed basis.

The new equipment will provide for videoconferencing over IP technology known as H.323, and permits real-time, two-way, video communication to be broadcast across the state of Ohio. It also provides for digital capture and rebroadcast of program content.

All seven of Ohio's Regional Library Systems will be able to deliver professional development to librarians throughout the state. Additional equipment to assist in video capture and the deployment of streaming video
will be purchased with the grant. This will enable CAMLS to capture, archive, and stream professional development workshops over the Internet, maximizing access to these training events. Eventually, library staff will be able to access a session from any web browser. Sessions captured and offered via the web will require no travel for attendees, providing dramatic cost savings for libraries strapped with tight budgets.
