Principal Duties: Duties: •Performs original and complex cataloging of print, microform and electronic monographs. •Copy catalogs print, microform and electronic monographs. •Manages cataloging services for five of Kent’s regional libraries by providing copy and original cataloging services and by evolving as a central point of service for Kent’s regional library customers. •Serves as a resource person for technical services staff answering complex cataloging questions, thereby facilitating access to Kent’s collections and fostering the professional development of technical services staff. Serves as a bridge between Acquisitions and Cataloging. •Works to develop the in-sourcing of cataloging operations to realize cost savings. •Addresses and resolves access issues and cataloging practices for monographs and microforms. •Works closely with public services librarians and systems staff to facilitate and coordinate monographic cataloging services. •Provides rush cataloging services, including call number assignment, to speed the addition of materials to our collections. •Evaluates cataloging for batch-loaded electronic book resources. •Embodies the highest professional standards. Environment: The Kent State University Libraries have a collection of over 2 million volumes and hold membership in the Association of Research Libraries and the Center for Research Libraries. Kent State University is a founding member of OCLC and of OhioLINK (http://www.ohiolink.edu), Ohio''s statewide information system. Innovative Interfaces is used for the integrated library system. Qualifications/
Requirements:
Required Qualifications: MLS or MLIS from accredited ALA program, professional experience in original cataloging of monographs, significant experience in copy cataloging of monographs, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of cataloging standards, including AACR2, LCSH, LC classification and MARC21. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in original and complex cataloging of microforms, experience in original and complex cataloging of electronic resources, experience using the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. automation system, evidence of experience in teaching and training technical services staff, experience in an academic library, bibliographic knowledge of at least one foreign language.
